Spur Intelligence has appointed Brendan Evers as Chief Executive Officer as part of a broader reshuffle of its senior leadership team.

Evers, previously President and Chief Operating Officer, takes the top role as the internet intelligence company looks to expand its reach among security and fraud teams. Former Chief Executive Officer Kevin Hickey becomes Executive Chairman, while Chief Technology Officer Alastair Parr also takes on Chief Operating Officer responsibilities.

Spur helps organisations identify VPNs, residential proxies and other internet infrastructure used to mask traffic. The company argues this is becoming more important as anonymisation tools, automated activity and AI-driven traffic make it harder for security and fraud teams to distinguish legitimate users from malicious or deceptive behaviour.

Leadership changes

The appointment marks Evers' first stint as Chief Executive Officer at Spur, after overseeing operations and go-to-market efforts. Before joining the company, he held senior roles at Prevalent, BeyondTrust and eEye Digital Security, with experience in revenue and sales leadership.

Parr will continue to lead technology and product work while also taking responsibility for day-to-day operations. Hickey will step back from operational management to focus on long-term strategy, market direction and strategic relationships.

The changes come as companies tackling online fraud and cyber threats face a shift in the nature of internet traffic. VPN services, residential proxy networks and other anonymisation methods can obscure the source and behaviour of connections, reducing the usefulness of traditional IP reputation tools and other static indicators.

Spur's product is designed to give customers more information about the infrastructure and behaviour behind online sessions. Its users include teams focused on fraud prevention, security monitoring and automated abuse.

"Organisations are dealing with an internet that is becoming increasingly difficult to interpret based on traditional signals alone," said Brendan Evers, Chief Executive Officer, Spur Intelligence. "Spur helps customers better understand what is behind a connection or session. Our focus is on bringing that intelligence to more organizations confronting fraud, security, and automation challenges."

Market context

Spur is framing the leadership changes around rising demand for deeper visibility into internet traffic that may be anonymised or routed through intermediate services. The issue has grown more prominent as businesses rely more heavily on digital channels for customer activity, payments and account access, while trying to limit bot attacks, account takeover attempts and other forms of abuse.

Evers' promotion points to operational continuity rather than an external change in direction. As President and Chief Operating Officer, he has already helped build the company's commercial structure and internal processes during a period of expansion.

For Hickey, the move to Executive Chairman allows him to remain involved without overseeing day-to-day operations. The structure is common among growth-stage technology companies that want to separate strategic oversight from operational execution while keeping a founder or former chief executive in a visible leadership role.

"Brendan has already played an important role in strengthening Spur's operations and go-to-market organization, and he understands both the market opportunity ahead and what it will take to capture it," said Kevin Hickey, Executive Chairman, Spur Intelligence. "This transition gives Spur an experienced leadership team while allowing me to remain closely connected to the company and its long-term direction."

Spur also received backing for the new structure from Insight Partners, one of its investors. The endorsement highlights the importance investors place on leadership stability as cybersecurity and fraud prevention companies try to convert demand into sustained growth.

"Spur has reached an important point in its evolution, gaining momentum in the market with significant opportunity ahead," said Thomas Krane, Managing Director, Insight Partners. "Brendan, Alastair and Kevin each bring complementary strengths to the business, and we believe this leadership structure gives Spur the experience, technical depth and continuity to capitalize on that opportunity."
