Contrivian launches US government solutions division
Mon, 12th Oct 2026 (Today)
Contrivian has launched Contrivian Government Solutions for US federal agencies and defence organisations, following demand from federal and defence customers after the introduction of its Constellation service.
The division was created to address procurement, service and security requirements that differ from those of state, local and commercial customers.
Contrivian Government Solutions will initially focus on the US federal market, with particular emphasis on defence-related work. It will provide access to the company's multi-network connectivity offering, alongside service models and support tailored to government users.
The offering combines fibre, broadband, LTE/5G and low Earth orbit satellite links in a single environment. Constellation works with Starlink, Amazon Leo and other low Earth orbit providers, using multiple active connections rather than a failover model.
The new division is aimed at agencies operating in fixed, remote and mobile settings where communications must continue through disruption. Federal and defence customers also face heightened security demands and more complex operating conditions.
Security focus
According to Contrivian, the division includes post-quantum-ready encryption across active-active satellite and terrestrial networks for distributed operations in denied, degraded and disrupted environments. It is also developing additional cyber security tools for government and defence settings, including patent-pending technology linked to post-quantum security requirements.
The move comes as federal agencies assess how to manage communications across a broader mix of network types. Fibre, broadband, mobile and satellite services are increasingly being used together, while cyber security risks and geopolitical pressures are shaping network design and management decisions.
Grant Kirkwood, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Contrivian, outlined the rationale for the new unit.
"Federal customers operate in environments where connectivity cannot be allowed to become a point of failure," said Grant Kirkwood, Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Contrivian. "The network has to identify degradation, move traffic and maintain critical communications before users or applications are affected. Government Solutions gives us a dedicated platform to address the connectivity and security requirements of federal and defense customers."
Contrivian already works with state and local government organisations on emergency response communications, but federal work requires a different operating model. Those differences include procurement rules and security expectations, particularly in defence environments.
Federal demand
Brian Hedges, Vice President, Strategic Partnerships at Contrivian, said the technical demands of federal users differ from standard corporate networking needs.
"Federal and defense environments create technical requirements that go well beyond conventional enterprise connectivity," said Brian Hedges, Vice President, Strategic Partnerships, Contrivian. "We're working closely with customers to understand those requirements and bring together the capabilities needed to address them. Government Solutions enables us to collaborate directly with federal and defense organizations on architectures that can maintain critical communications when individual networks, paths or infrastructure are degraded or unavailable."
The launch marks a step by Contrivian to separate its government activity into a dedicated structure as agencies and defence organisations examine more resilient network designs. The approach is intended to reflect the operational, security and procurement demands of federal customers.
