Databricks gains FedRAMP High authorisation on AWS GovCloud

Yesterday

Databricks has achieved Federal Risk and Authorisation Management Program (FedRAMP) High authorisation for its Data Intelligence Platform on Amazon Web Services (AWS) GovCloud.

This authorisation represents Databricks' commitment to aligning its commercial products with the U.S federal government's requirements for handling highly sensitive Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI). Databricks already holds Provisional Authorization for Department of Defense (DoD) Impact Level 5 (IL5) and FedRAMP High credentials for Azure Databricks.

To bolster its public sector efforts, Databricks has appointed Mike Daniels as Vice President and General Manager of Public Sector. Daniels, who brings over three decades of industry expertise, will oversee the expansion of Databricks' public sector practice and ensure public sector clients' successful adoption of the data intelligence platform.

Rory Patterson, Chairman of the Board of Databricks Federal, commented on the significance of data for government agencies. "Working with public sector organisations for more than a decade, we know how critical it is for global governments to modernise in order to complete their mission. Data is a critical part of decision-making in the government and Databricks is enabling government agencies to understand their organisation's data, identify waste, pass audits, and gain efficiencies — all while remaining secure and compliant," he said.

"We've completed countless transformative public sector projects, modernising these agencies with our Data Intelligence Platform, but we know we can still do more to help agencies transform into the organisations of the future. With a significant increase in demand over the last two years for our commercial platform in the Public Sector, I am incredibly excited Mike is joining us to lead its continued growth and help us unblock more public sector programs and showcase what is possible when the government has access to modern commercial software."

Databricks' Data Intelligence Platform is currently utilised by over 400 public sector entities, which include most executive departments within the U.S. federal government. The platform aids these organisations in data management for analytics, machine learning, and AI applications, contributing to efforts such as national security, fraud prevention, citizenship processes, and government operations optimisation.

New FedRAMP High authorisation on AWS GovCloud allows Databricks' government customers to adopt advanced data solutions with the safeguards required by the U.S. government while integrating agentic AI solutions under strict privacy and security standards.

Mike Daniels expressed his enthusiasm for joining Databricks, articulating a commitment to supporting public sector organisations in their missions. "Every public sector organisation wants to leverage data and AI to fuel efficiency and innovation and drive their missions forward. We want to make that as easy, collaborative and cost-effective as possible for them while upholding the security standards and protocols these agencies require," said Daniels.

"Today, building domain-specific AI applications on your trusted data — what we call data intelligence — is an imperative. I am thrilled to join Databricks to help more public sector agencies drive value for their organisations with the most innovative data and AI platform on the market."

Databricks has also made its AWS GovCloud offerings available, designed to cater to both the DoD and non-DoD government entities. This initiative enables more public sector organisations to engage with Databricks solutions while ensuring compliance with regulatory standards such as FedRAMP High, DoD IL5, and International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).

The company's products are now generally available through the Databricks AWS GovCloud DoD and Community offerings, providing tailored solutions for different government sectors.
