Deel acquires Clarity to expand AI-driven identity checks
Mon, 3rd Aug 2026 (Today)
Deel has acquired cybersecurity company Clarity, adding identity verification and background-check technology to its platform.
The transaction has closed, and Clarity's team has joined Deel. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Clarity specialises in identity verification, deepfake detection, and fraud prevention. Deel plans to use that technology across the employment process, from pre-hire checks to device provisioning and workforce access after employees join.
The acquisition is Deel's 15th and comes as the company says it has surpassed USD $1.5 billion in annual recurring revenue in the first half of the year. It says that growth has been profitable and is helping fund acquisitions and investment in artificial intelligence.
Deel, which describes itself as a global people platform, says it serves more than 40,000 businesses in more than 150 countries. Its services cover hiring, payroll, HR, benefits, mobility, performance, and device management.
Identity focus
Clarity's systems are designed to address rising fraud risks linked to AI tools, including manipulated identities and deepfakes. Deel wants to connect pre-hire identity checks with post-hire security controls through Deel IT, creating a single identity layer across the workforce lifecycle.
The deal also complements Deel's existing background-check partners. Rather than replacing that network, Clarity will combine external screening services with its in-house technology.
Alex Bouaziz, Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Deel, explained the rationale for the acquisition.
"AI is changing every part of how companies build global teams, but it's also changing the threat landscape. Organisations need more than point-in-time verification; they need continuous trust. Bringing Clarity and its world-class AI talent into Deel gives us the capabilities to build trusted identity security directly into our platform. This lets customers confidently hire, onboard, and manage verified teams globally, with continuous safeguards that evolve as threats get smarter," Bouaziz said.
Growth strategy
Deel says the purchase reflects a broader acquisition strategy aimed at expanding its platform while retaining control of key technology. Bringing more AI tools in-house supports its operating model, while allowing customers to keep using a range of external services where needed.
For Clarity, the agreement gives its technology access to a much larger customer base in international hiring and workforce administration. The company has focused on using AI to monitor and verify identity beyond the initial hiring stage.
Michael Matias, Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Clarity, described that goal in his comments on the transaction.
"Trust shouldn't end after a background check on day one. We built Clarity to continuously verify identity in an era where AI makes fraud more convincing than ever. Joining Deel allows us to bring that vision to one of the world's largest global workforce platforms and help organisations confidently embrace AI while strengthening security across the entire employee journey," Matias said.
The acquisition highlights a growing focus among HR and workforce software providers on security and identity controls as AI reshapes both recruitment and cyber risk. Deepfake impersonation, synthetic identities, and remote onboarding fraud have become more prominent concerns for employers managing international workforces.
By adding Clarity, Deel is moving further into that segment of the market, linking employment administration with identity assurance and access control in one system. The transaction has already closed, and Clarity's engineering team is now part of Deel.
