Eltropy launches verified texting for banks & credit unions

Eltropy has launched Branded Texting for credit unions and community banks.
The product uses carrier-verified identity and Rich Communication Services messaging.
The service is designed to help financial institutions show customers that a text message is genuine, at a time when impersonation scams remain a concern across the sector. It adds verified business profiles to messages and supports richer formats, including images, interactive cards, carousels, and action buttons.
Built on Rich Communication Services, or RCS, the offering uses a messaging standard now supported on Apple iOS and Google Android devices across major US carriers. Eltropy said that gives the product access to nearly nine in 10 phones in the US.
Text messaging remains a common communications channel for financial institutions, which use it for payment reminders, loan updates, appointments, and customer support. Eltropy is positioning the new service as an extension of those existing exchanges rather than as a separate communications tool.
Dibyendu Roy, Senior Director of Products at Eltropy, linked the launch to the wider rollout of RCS support in North America.
"The timing reflects a significant expansion in RCS availability. Juniper Research estimates that the share of mobile devices in North America able to receive RCS business messages rose from 40.3% in 2024 to 86.5% in 2025," Roy said.
"That broader reach creates an opportunity for credit unions and community banks to offer more capable digital interactions within the messaging apps consumers already use," he added.
Fraud concerns
The launch comes amid continued concern over scam text messages. Eltropy cited Federal Trade Commission data showing consumers reported losing USD 470 million to scams that began with text messages in 2024. Fake fraud alerts about suspicious purchases or account problems were among the schemes reported most often.
The financial cost is not limited to customers. Eltropy also pointed to research from LexisNexis Risk Solutions showing that, across fraud types and channels, every USD 1 of fraud loss cost US financial services firms USD 5.75 in total.
Eltropy said it manages a carrier verification process that establishes a financial institution's identity behind its displayed name, logo, and business profile. The process is intended to help customers distinguish between legitimate outreach from their bank or credit union and impersonation attempts.
Ashish Garg, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Eltropy, said the company sees verification as central to trust in financial messaging.
"Texting works because it fits into people's lives. Branded Texting is a game changer because it builds on that familiarity with verified identity and a much richer experience," Garg said.
"Credit unions and community banks ask consumers to verify their identity every day. Consumers deserve that assurance in return. A carrier-verified profile helps them recognize that a message is coming from their financial institution. Rich content and clear action buttons then make it easier to understand the message and take the next step, all in the messaging app they already use," he said.
Existing workflows
The product is intended to fit into service, lending, payments, and collections workflows already handled through Eltropy's platform. Existing messaging compliance rules still apply, including consent, opt-out, and audit controls.
If RCS is unavailable, messages can fall back to SMS, although the fallback does not include the verified profile or interactive elements. That means the richer functions depend on the device, carrier, messaging application, and configuration.
Branded Texting is generally available to credit unions and community banks, subject to sender verification and carrier approval. Eltropy serves more than 750 financial institutions, according to the company.
