Jeff Ogborn wins 2025 peer-nominated Security Innovator Award
Jeff Ogborn, Senior Solutions Engineer at Gallagher Security, has been recognised with the 2025 Security Innovator Award, an honour that is determined exclusively through peer nominations within the security sector.
Ogborn's accolade highlights his ongoing work on developing security systems that place an emphasis on flexibility and meeting customer needs, according to the award's organisers and his peers.
He reflected on the significance of this recognition and the collaborative effort behind his achievements. "I'm genuinely honoured by this nomination," said Ogborn.
A notable aspect of Ogborn's recent work is his role in the development of Gallagher's QuickSwitch device, a product designed to address challenges in the migration of access control systems. Ogborn described the transition of this idea from conception to real-world application, stating: "To see something that was literally 'cooked in the kitchen' at home make its way into the marketplace - answering one of the industry's biggest implementation challenges - is incredibly rewarding. It's proof that practical innovation can start anywhere, and I'm grateful to everyone who believed in the vision and helped bring it to life."
Peer recognition
The Security Innovator Awards are based entirely on nominations from industry peers, underscoring a professional consensus regarding the positive impact of nominees. This approach is intended to recognise those who contribute new methods, products, and strategies to the field of security.
Ogborn's nomination came from Jeff Fields, Director of Government Programs – Americas at Gallagher Security. Fields emphasised Ogborn's proactive approach towards problem solving within the industry.
"What sets Jeff apart isn't just his engineering skill, it's the way he sees past obstacles," said Fields. "Take Gallagher's new QuickSwitch module. Jeff didn't just help design it; he saw a long-standing industry pain point and created a tool that flips the problem on its head. That kind of thinking doesn't come from following trends, it comes from years of listening, building, and solving."
The QuickSwitch module was introduced at ISC West 2025, offering a solution that allows users to switch from legacy access control systems to newer ones without the need for extensive and costly infrastructure changes. According to Gallagher Security, this allows customers greater flexibility and control over their security systems, while managing transition costs.
Contributions beyond product design
Ogborn's influence, as described by his colleagues, extends to adapting existing technologies for broader needs. One cited example is his adaptation of a Gallagher disturbance sensor as an affordable measure against catalytic converter theft - a growing concern for municipal and fleet operators.
His contributions are not limited to technical innovation; Ogborn is also active in product refinement, developing technical strategies for sectors such as government and utilities, and mentoring colleagues.
He was also quick to draw attention to the collaborative environment that contributes to such developments. "My team at Gallagher enabled this success through deep collaboration with development teams and leadership engagement, which became one of the program's strongest assets," said Ogborn.
This year's list of Security Innovator Award recipients includes a range of industry professionals, from developers to executives. Ogborn is the first member of the Gallagher Security team to receive this particular award.
Fields further commented on Ogborn's approach and the rationale behind his recognition, stating: "Jeff doesn't innovate for recognition - he does it because he genuinely cares about solving problems that matter. This award reflects not just what he's built, but how he leads. We're proud to have him on our team."
