KnowBe4 appoints Joel Kemmerer CIO to lead digital change
KnowBe4 has appointed Joel Kemmerer as its new Chief Information Officer to guide digital transformation initiatives.
Kemmerer, who brings more than three decades of experience in IT leadership, joins KnowBe4 following roles at companies such as N-able, SolarWinds and Advanced Micro Devices. His experience includes integrating acquisitions and streamlining business operations across the technology sector.
Kemmerer holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas and a Master of Business Administration from the Edwin L. Cox School of Business at Southern Methodist University. In a prior position, his team was recognised with the American Business Awards Gold Stevie for Information Technology Department of the Year in 2022.
Leadership comments
KnowBe4's Chief Executive Officer, Bryan Palma, noted Kemmerer's ability to bridge business and technology, describing his skills as key to the company's ongoing development.
"As a bridge builder and connector, Joel is able to translate complex technology ecosystems to be consumable by all users," said Bryan Palma, CEO, KnowBe4. "He brings unique business acumen to KnowBe4 and we are excited to welcome him to the team for this critical role in our growing company."
Kemmerer stated his approach to the new role would emphasise customer value and operational efficiency while looking ahead to broader organisational transformation.
"Joining KnowBe4 as CIO, my plan is to reimagine how we deliver value to our customers, embed operational excellence in everything we do, and empower our teams to transform and innovate at every level. I look forward to helping KnowBe4 accelerate its strategic vision and drive meaningful change that positions us for long-term success."
Background in IT transformation
Kemmerer's industry experience has focused on leading teams through digital change. He has been involved in technology integration during acquisitions and implementing operational improvements at scale within established firms. At both N-able and SolarWinds, he participated in projects aimed at improving IT infrastructure and security operations management.
The appointment comes as KnowBe4 continues to expand its digital and platform capabilities. Digital transformation has become a central concern for cybersecurity companies as they address increasingly complex cyber threats and adapt to changes in workplace technology use. Kemmerer's background aligns with these needs, particularly his experience in translating technology for broader business and user groups.
Focus on human risk management
KnowBe4's work centres around human risk management within cybersecurity, assisting enterprises in strengthening security culture through educational platforms and a range of protective modules. The company's suite includes cloud email security, real-time coaching and crowdsourced anti-phishing tools, supported by AI-powered systems.
The company provides cybersecurity resources to more than 70,000 organisations globally. As cybersecurity threats continue to target the human element within organisations, KnowBe4's investment in both technology and leadership forms part of ongoing efforts to address evolving risks.
Kemmerer's appointment as CIO is expected to play a pivotal role in advancing KnowBe4's strategic objectives through technological leadership and organisational development.
