Kodak Alaris launches N2000 series scanners for offices

Kodak Alaris has launched two new network desktop document scanners, expanding its N2000 Series for distributed workplaces.

The new models, the KODAK N2040 and N2050, are aimed at organisations that still rely on paper documents across multiple sites, branch offices and home-working setups. They are intended to give businesses a consistent approach to document capture where staff scan records away from central mailrooms or back-office hubs.

The N2040 processes up to 40 pages per minute or 80 images per minute, while the N2050 processes up to 50 pages per minute or 100 images per minute. The recommended daily volume is up to 6,000 pages for the N2040 and up to 8,000 for the N2050.

Both are desktop models with network connectivity and a 100-sheet feeder. They are designed for small and medium-sized businesses, reception desks, administrative functions and larger organisations seeking a standard setup across dispersed teams.

Standardised capture

The launch reflects continuing demand for document capture tools that work beyond a single office location. In sectors such as customer service, finance and claims processing, businesses often need to scan forms, records and supporting documents where the work is carried out while maintaining consistent image quality and record handling.

Both scanners include onboard Gigabit Ethernet and a setup feature intended to support standard configuration across several devices. They also come with TWAIN, ISIS and WIA drivers, along with Smart Touch and KODAK Capture Pro LE software, allowing use without additional software purchases.

Image handling is a central part of the new models. Kodak Alaris said its Perfect Page technology produces clearer images at smaller file sizes, while a dual-light feature is intended to reduce shadows and image defects that can appear when scanning worn or damaged originals.

The scanners also support a range of media types. Alongside standard paper documents, they can be paired with modular flatbed options for bound books, fragile items and passports, allowing a single workstation to manage different document formats.

Security focus

Security and record integrity are another focus of the release. The N2000 Series includes Secure Boot, signed firmware and encrypted connections, designed to ensure that only trusted code runs on the devices and that scanned data is protected while moving across a network.

The scanners also include digital stamping by default, embedding date, time and sequence information into scanned images. The feature is intended to support audit trails and records management in regulated or process-heavy environments.

A 3.5-inch LED control panel is used for workflow selection and daily operation. Smart Touch can also be used to create one-touch scanning routines for regular tasks.

Environmental rating

Kodak Alaris said the N2000 Series has achieved EPEAT Gold Registered status and meets ENERGY STAR guidelines on energy efficiency and the reduction of hazardous substances and waste. Environmental credentials have become a more visible part of procurement decisions for office equipment buyers, particularly in public sector and large corporate tenders.

Megan Bevilacqua, Director of Global Product Management & Channel Operations at Kodak Alaris, outlined the market problem the products are meant to address. "Distributed organisations don't have a scanner problem; they have a standardisation problem. When every site captures differently, the cost shows up later as rework, delays and audit findings. The N2000 Series give them one capture standard they can deploy everywhere and defend when it counts. This way, multiple departments such as customer service, accounts and claims all produce the same trustworthy record," she said.
