PDQ has appointed Jeff Pinkston as Chief Technology Officer, bringing a former Microsoft engineering leader into its senior leadership team as the company continues to develop its endpoint management and security products.

Pinkston will lead technology strategy at PDQ, which provides software for IT teams covering software deployment, patching, vulnerability management and remote device management. His responsibilities will include the company's endpoint management products as it expands its tools to help customers manage and secure device fleets.

He joins PDQ after 24 years at Microsoft, where he most recently served as Vice President and General Manager of Defender for Office. In that role, he led product and engineering for security tools designed to protect email, Teams and Office 365.

Engineering experience

Earlier in his Microsoft career, Pinkston spent more than 11 years working on Intune, the company's device management platform. He progressed from Group Engineering Manager to Director before taking charge of all Intune engineering.

Before working on Intune, he led engineering for the Microsoft Desktop Optimisation Pack, a collection of patching and deployment tools for Windows devices. His experience also includes consulting work at Deloitte, where he worked on IT tools and processes for device management.

The appointment brings PDQ an executive with experience across endpoint management, software deployment and security engineering. These areas are central to IT teams responsible for maintaining devices, deploying applications and addressing software vulnerabilities across their organisations.

Based in Salt Lake City, PDQ says it serves more than 33,000 customers. Its core audience includes system administrators, managed service providers and other IT professionals responsible for managing devices and maintaining IT environments.

Dan Cook, Chief Executive Officer at PDQ, highlighted Pinkston's experience leading engineering for device management software.

"Jeff has spent over a decade running engineering for one of the biggest device management platforms IT admins use every day," said Dan Cook, Chief Executive Officer at PDQ.

"His depth of experience makes him the right engineering leader for a company of our stage and size, and I'm confident his experience will make our products better for the people actually using them," Cook added.

Product development

PDQ's products focus on Windows and macOS devices, providing tools for patching, software deployment and vulnerability management. The company's software is designed to help IT professionals carry out these tasks across the devices they manage.

Pinkston said his career had centred on developing products used directly by IT administrators. His experience at Microsoft included engineering leadership across device management and security products.

"I've spent a large part of my career on the tools IT admins depend on," said Jeff Pinkston, Chief Technology Officer at PDQ.

"PDQ builds for the people actually doing the work to make it easy and fast - that's unique and special. I look forward to bringing my experience to our customers," he added.

Founded in 2001, PDQ has built its business around IT management software for endpoint administration and security. Pinkston's appointment adds senior engineering experience as the company continues to develop products for IT teams managing devices and software across their environments.
