QuSecure appoints Brian Cunningham to drive PQC growth

Wed, 11th Feb 2026

QuSecure has appointed former US Navy SEAL commander and technology executive Brian Cunningham as Executive Vice President, Strategy and Growth, as governments and large organisations step up planning for post-quantum cryptography.

Cunningham will work across federal and commercial markets, overseeing strategy, delivery readiness, partner relationships, and operational execution. QuSecure describes the role as part of a broader push to expand adoption of quantum-resilient security and cryptographic agility.

Post-quantum cryptography focuses on encryption methods designed to resist attacks from future quantum computers. Many large organisations are assessing "harvest now, decrypt later" risks, in which intercepted data could be stored and decrypted once quantum systems become viable. The concern has increased scrutiny of long-lived sensitive information in sectors such as defence, financial services, energy, and telecommunications.

Go-to-market focus

Cunningham will be responsible for building and scaling QuSecure's go-to-market operating system across federal and commercial sectors. The company linked the appointment to growing activity around mandates and procurement requirements for post-quantum cryptography, as well as customer expectations to modernise cryptography without disrupting services.

QuSecure's core message centres on "crypto-agility"-the ability to change cryptographic algorithms and implementations across systems with less operational friction than traditional upgrade cycles. Many organisations face a patchwork of encryption libraries, embedded devices, legacy applications, and third-party services, which can make cryptography changes slow and difficult to audit.

QuSecure markets a product called QuProtect R3, which it describes as an integrated platform for cryptographic inventory, crypto-agility, and cryptographic command functions. The company says the software integrates with existing infrastructure rather than requiring wholesale system replacement.

Leadership background

Cunningham's background spans military command and corporate roles. QuSecure described him as a former Special Operations Commander and Navy SEAL, with more than 25 years of military service.

His military leadership roles included Commanding Officer of SEAL Team ONE; Deputy Commander of the U.S. AFRICOM Joint Task Force; Director of Strategy, Plans, and Policy for Naval Special Warfare; and Director of Operations for U.S. Special Operations Command-Africa. He also held senior operational roles within US and NATO joint task forces.

In the private sector, Cunningham most recently served as Chief Operating Officer of FoundationaLLM.AI, where QuSecure says he helped scale an AI-driven agentic data platform. He also held senior strategy and growth leadership roles at Solliance, including responsibility for corporate strategy, market expansion, and partner ecosystems.

He holds a master's degree in Public Policy from Princeton University and a Bachelor of Science in International Business Management from Villanova University. QuSecure says he has also completed graduate studies and certificate programmes at Stanford University, MIT, Dartmouth's Tuck School of Business, and the University of Texas McCombs School of Business.

Federal and commercial customers

QuSecure cited customers including the US Army and Air Force, along with telecommunications and energy companies, financial institutions, and cloud services providers. It did not disclose contract values or deployment sizes.

The company also highlighted funding progress, saying it raised additional funding last year and that its Series A totals USD $28 million. It did not provide an updated valuation or details about investors.

The appointment comes as cyber security suppliers and standards bodies prepare for broader implementation of post-quantum cryptography. Security leaders face practical challenges including system discovery, dependency mapping, and governance. Many organisations have cryptography embedded across applications and devices in ways that are difficult to catalogue, complicating timelines for any mandated transition.

QuSecure framed the hire as a response to those operational realities, signalling expectations of increased demand for structured deployment programmes and closer alignment between product delivery and partners.

Rebecca Krauthamer, Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder of QuSecure, said:

"As organizations move from awareness to action on post-quantum security, execution matters as much as innovation. Brian brings a rare combination of operational discipline, strategic clarity, and credibility across government and enterprise markets. He knows how to build systems that scale under pressure, and that capability is exactly what QuSecure needs as demand for quantum-safe security accelerates."

Cunningham said:

"Post-quantum cryptography is no longer a future problem; it's a present execution challenge. Organisations know they need to modernize cryptography, but many struggle with how to do it safely, at scale, and without breaking critical systems. QuSecure has built the right platform for this moment, and I'm excited to help scale the strategy, partnerships, and operational muscle required to turn PQC readiness into durable advantage for customers."
