TCS has become the technology and innovation partner for The New Terminal One at John F. Kennedy International Airport, under an agreement covering the new international terminal at JFK.

TCS will support technology systems across the terminal, including passenger processing, IT operations, infrastructure management, enterprise application support and cyber security. The work will focus on the digital systems behind airport operations and the passenger journey.

The New Terminal One forms part of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey's wider airport redevelopment programme. The project describes it as a USD $19 billion transformation of JFK, including two new terminals, two expanded and modernised terminals, a new ground transportation centre and a redesigned roadway network.

Under the agreement, TCS will help build what is described as a next-generation operating model for the terminal. This includes digital infrastructure, AI-enabled IT operations and innovation work intended to support both daily airport functions and the traveller experience.

The systems are intended to give the terminal and partner airlines better visibility over processes ranging from passenger processing and baggage handling to terminal security. The arrangement also aims to improve operational decision-making and reduce costs for airlines using the facility.

For JFK, the agreement links a major infrastructure project with a large outsourced technology partner at a time when airports are trying to meet higher passenger expectations while improving efficiency. Airports have increasingly invested in automation, data systems and integrated operational platforms to reduce disruption and make terminals easier to navigate.

Terminal systems

TCS will support all technology systems at the terminal rather than a single part of the operation. That gives the company a role across core airport processes as the new facility is developed and prepared for use by international airlines and their passengers.

The scope outlined by the companies suggests the partnership extends beyond back-end IT support into operational oversight. AI-driven IT operations and broader infrastructure management point to a role in monitoring system performance and responding to issues that could affect airport flow.

Passenger processing systems are central to how travellers move through a terminal, covering check-in, document handling and other airport touchpoints. Baggage systems and security processes are also among the most operationally sensitive parts of an airport, where delays or failures can quickly spread across airlines and ground services.

The project will use TCS products known as Cognix and ignio. The companies described these tools as part of an effort to provide end-to-end visibility and more proactive management across key parts of the terminal operation.

Broader push

The tie-up also reflects how airport operators are positioning terminals as commercial and service environments rather than simply transport hubs. Retail, hospitality and more personalised passenger engagement have become more prominent in terminal planning, particularly for international gateways competing on service quality.

The New Terminal One is intended to serve as JFK's new international terminal, giving it a central role in the airport's repositioning. JFK remains one of the main entry points into the United States for international travellers, making performance at the terminal significant for airlines and passengers alike.

Jennifer Aument, Chief Executive Officer, The New Terminal One, said: "New York City and global travelers deserve an international airport terminal that offers an extraordinary experience. With TCS as our technology partner, we look forward to the New Terminal One earning its place among the world's best, delivering a transformational guest experience for our partner airlines and their customers, while setting new standards in airport operations and innovation."

The deal also expands TCS's presence in transport and hospitality-related technology services in North America. The company said the work sits within its travel, transport and hospitality business, which serves airlines, hotels and logistics providers.

Amit Bajaj, President - North America, TCS, said: "Airports are evolving into dynamic consumer ecosystems where operations, hospitality, retail, and personalization work together in real time. Our partnership with New Terminal One is about helping build that future. As a gateway to the world's most iconic city - New York, it is designed from the ground up to exceed the growing expectations of global travelers. AI will facilitate a seamless and reliable passenger experience and help evolve New Terminal One into a state-of-the-art experiential zone that will attract global travelers and keep them engaged in exciting new ways."
