Commvault launches secure cloud solution with CIS images
Commvault has unveiled a new solution that enables straightforward and secure deployment of its cloud platform using CIS-hardened images across major cloud marketplaces.
The Commvault Cloud Platform can now be deployed using CIS-hardened images available on Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, and VMware marketplaces. These images align with the Center for Internet Security (CIS) Benchmarks, which aim to reduce vulnerabilities in configuration by adhering to pre-recommended security settings and controls.
CIS-hardened images are designed to mitigate issues such as permissive network policies that may lead to security threats. As configuration errors are cited as a significant cause of cloud vulnerabilities, contributing to 23% of cloud infrastructure attacks according to industry research, these pre-configured images provide a security-focused deployment to bolster confidence in IT and security teams.
Commvault's announcement builds upon its existing portfolio of security implementations, including certifications such as FedRAMP High Authorized, ISO27001:2013, SOC 2, Type II, and FIPS 140-2. The newly introduced CIS-hardened images promise rapid and confident configuration and deployment of the Commvault Cloud with several key benefits.
Among these benefits are pre-built compliance checks that provide secure environments from deployment, minimising vulnerability by addressing risks of misconfiguration, and streamlining compliance with frameworks such as NIST CSF, HIPAA, PCI-DSS, and ISO 27001. The images are designed to offer quick and secure installations from AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, or VMware marketplaces, requiring minimal effort from users.
As organisations increasingly shift to cloud solutions, with IDC forecasting a doubling of public cloud services spending to USD $1.6 trillion by 2028, Commvault's cloud-first offerings have aimed to enhance resilience. Recent introductions include Cleanroom Recovery, Cloud Rewind, and Clumio Backtrack, as part of efforts to bolster cloud resilience further via the new CIS-hardened images.
Chris Montgomery, CTO – Security, Americas at Commvault, stated, "Organizations demand solutions that are not only secure and compliant but also straightforward to deploy. With CIS-hardened images, we can eliminate the guesswork, providing IT teams with a secure, pre-configured foundation to accelerate their cyber resilience strategies while meeting industry standards."
Marek Duranik, Storage & Data Protection Associate Director at Merck, commented, "As a security-first organization, having confidence in how our solutions are deployed is critical. Commvault's CIS-hardened images give us the assurance that we're starting from a strong security baseline, allowing our teams to focus on protecting and recovering critical data."
Commvault's CIS-hardened images will be available globally during the current quarter at no additional cost for customers. These images, built on a hardened Rocky Linux 8 operating system, are designed to protect both the software and infrastructure layers.
