Palo Alto Networks has launched Cortex Cloud SaaS Security, combining SaaS security with its broader cloud security platform.

The launch reflects the growing overlap between software-as-a-service applications, cloud infrastructure, digital identities, data stores and AI tools inside large organisations.

Businesses are increasingly linking third-party applications and AI agents to internal systems, widening access to sensitive information and critical services. This creates more opportunities for attackers to exploit misconfigurations, excessive permissions and exposed resources across connected environments.

The new offering is designed to give security teams a single view of risks across SaaS applications and cloud environments. It brings together posture, identity, data and AI security so organisations can see how separate weaknesses may connect.

The product covers 100 SaaS applications, along with the data, identities and AI elements within them. It is also intended to help security teams identify attack paths by linking SaaS exposures with cloud, data, identity and AI risks.

Connected risks

A key challenge for security teams is fragmentation, as SaaS and cloud environments are often assessed separately. That can make it harder to understand how a weakness in one application could affect other systems or create a route for attackers to move across an organisation.

Cortex Cloud SaaS Security is intended to improve prioritisation by highlighting the risks Palo Alto Networks considers most critical. Integrations with Cortex AgentiX are also intended to support investigations and remediation through agentic AI workflows.

The announcement comes as cybersecurity vendors push broader platform approaches rather than point products, particularly as customers seek clearer oversight of complex digital estates. Security leaders are under pressure to reduce tool sprawl while maintaining visibility across cloud services, SaaS tools and newer AI-driven workloads.

Siddharth Deshpande, Director of Industry Solutions, Asia Pacific and Japan, at Palo Alto Networks, described the challenge as one of interconnected exposure as AI becomes more tightly linked to business applications.

“As enterprises connect AI agents to their business applications, they also expand access to sensitive data and critical systems. An excessive permission or misconfiguration in one application can create exposure across connected environments. Security teams need to understand those relationships, identify which risks matter most and act quickly. Cortex Cloud SaaS Security brings SaaS and cloud risks into a unified view, helping organisations protect sensitive information and accelerate investigation and remediation through agentic AI workflows,” said Siddharth Deshpande, Director of Industry Solutions, Asia Pacific and Japan, at Palo Alto Networks.
