Platform9 & Commvault partner to boost private cloud security
Platform9 has announced a partnership with Commvault to provide integrated data protection features for its Private Cloud Director platform.
Platform9 Private Cloud Director will now be fully integrated with Commvault cloud software, offering organisations improved cyber resilience and advanced data protection capabilities for building and operating private clouds.
The Private Cloud Director platform provides enterprises with a familiar experience, incorporating features such as virtual machine high availability, dynamic resource rebalancing, live migration, distributed virtual switches, and software-defined networking. By leveraging existing storage and server infrastructure, Platform9 aims to deliver an enterprise-grade private cloud environment.
Data protection
The collaboration with Commvault introduces agentless integration to Platform9's Private Cloud Director, enabling protection for both virtualised and container-based workloads. Organisations can access application-consistent data backups, granular file recovery, and the ability to meet stringent recovery targets, all within a unified platform.
According to both companies, the integration is designed to help enterprises maintain the availability and integrity of mission-critical systems even as cyber security threats continue to evolve. The combined solution supports rapid disaster recovery across different geographical sites, as well as backup capabilities tailored to Kubernetes environments.
Integration features
The main benefits highlighted by Platform9 and Commvault include agentless backup and recovery of virtual machines, application-consistent backups for crucial applications, granular file and folder recovery, virtual machine disaster recovery across clusters in different locations, and protection for Kubernetes workloads to support dynamic cloud-native deployments.
Alan Atkinson, Chief Business Development Officer at Commvault, commented on the partnership:
"We are excited to partner with a leading private cloud company like Platform9 that delivers the enterprise virtualization features our customers expect. Combined with Commvault's critical data protection, disaster recovery and security capabilities, this integration enables joint customers to confidently migrate to Platform9's Private Cloud Director and know they are protected, and their data is safe."
Madhura Maskasky, Co-founder and Chief Product Officer at Platform9, noted the expected impact for private cloud customers:
"Commvault's industry-leading cyber resilience and data protection features are trusted by enterprise customers to help them protect their most important data. The combination of Commvault and Private Cloud Director provides a compelling solution for customers looking for a private cloud that is easy to use and has all the features they expect, particularly those who have been forced to re-evaluate their existing approach."
For enterprise customers
The integration aims to address a key area for enterprises that are moving or operating workloads in private cloud environments. With built-in support for mission-critical features and the assurance of application-level data integrity, the partnership is intended to support organisations requiring robust and easily managed private cloud deployments.
The unified approach to data protection also seeks to relieve the operational burden and complexity often associated with managing multiple solutions across hybrid cloud and on-premises private cloud infrastructure. The companies said that customers can expect to meet demanding data recovery objectives and comply with regulatory requirements more easily by using the platform's capabilities.
Platform9 and Commvault stated they are targeting enterprises seeking to enhance their private cloud strategies, particularly those reviewing their backup and disaster recovery approaches in response to new operational demands, security risks, or evolving technology standards.
